Hey there, cozy friends! 🍁✨

I know, I know — everyone’s already talking about Christmas, but can we pause for a second? We’re in that special slice of the year where autumn hasn’t fully let go, and winter is just starting to whisper in the wind. It’s this in-between moment that feels a bit mysterious, a little gothic, and, honestly, has a charm all its own.

The Dark Side of Autumn (And How to Love It) 🤎

I know this part of autumn can feel a bit gloomy and hard to love. It’s not everyone’s favorite season, but I’ve found some ways to embrace and make the most of it.

For me, this time of year calls for a special soundtrack. I’ve got playlists filled with soft piano music, deep cellos, and a bit of indie folk that feels like wandering through an old, ivy-covered library. (Might I suggest listening to Lana Del Rey or some Chopin for my extra classy friends while reading the rest of this post? 😉)

How to Enjoy the Dark Academia Vibe 🖤📚

This is the perfect time to lean into that dark academia aesthetic — you know, the one filled with old books, warm sweaters, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to write poetry by candlelight.

  • Dim the Lights and Embrace the Shadows 🕯️

One way I’ve learned to appreciate this season is by creating a soft, moody glow in the room. Light a few candles and turn off the overhead lights. It makes everything feel a bit like a secret hideaway. I’m currently loving black, unscented taper candles, they look so elegant and slightly gothic. Check out these black-gold ones on Etsy.

  • Wrap Yourself in a Vintage Blanket 🧣

A cozy, dark-toned blanket can be just the thing for these chilly evenings. I found an amazing one that feels like it’s straight out of a Victorian-era study. It’s perfect for curling up with a book and a cup of tea. Check out these ones for your own inspiration.

  • Curl Up with a Classic Gothic Novel 📖

It’s the perfect time of year for a moody read. I suggest Wuthering Heights or Dracula if you want to lean into the dark academia vibe. The wind outside and the sound of turning pages make for an unforgettable evening.

Decor Ideas to Embrace Dark Autumn Vibes 🖤🍂

If you’re looking to bring a bit of this aesthetic into your home, here are a few ways I’ve made my space feel cozier (and a little spookier) as we say goodbye to fall:

  • Dried Florals and Branches 🌾

Fresh flowers feel a bit too cheerful for this time of year. Instead, I’ve been loving dried eucalyptus, dark wheat stalks, or even a bundle of bare branches in a tall vase. It’s simple, a little eerie, but still beautiful. You can find stunning dried floral arrangement on Etsy that fit this look perfectly.

  • Dark, Cozy Pillows and Throws 🖤

Swap out your bright pillows for something darker and richer. I’ve chosen deep burgundy and dark green velvet pillow covers. It adds warmth without being too bright.

  • A Little Touch of Gold ✨

If you want to add a bit of light to the darkness, a small brass or gold accent can do wonders. Whether it's a picture frame, candle holder, or decorative tray, gold accents bring a touch of warmth and glamour.

Finding Comfort in the Bleak 🍂

Put on your favorite oversized sweater, make a cup of spiced tea, and enjoy the stillness. You might just find it’s the perfect time for a little reflection and slower, mindful moments.

And if it’s still not your favorite, remember, the best part of a dark autumn night is cuddling up with your favorite furry friend (if you have a cat, give them an extra snuggle for me 🐱). Let’s enjoy this moody, magical season while it lasts.

Until next time, stay cozy and mysterious! 🖤🍁✨
